Student life ?
Life as a student in Bamberg is more than just books and libraries. In addition to your studies, the university offers a wide range of opportunities to actively and meaningfully organize your free time. Would you like to get socially involved? There are numerous university groups in which you can get involved - from political initiatives to cultural projects. Perhaps you are simply looking for a balance to your day-to-day studies? Then university sports with its wide range of activities is just right for you. For example, you can relax with yoga or make new friends in the soccer team. There is also plenty to discover outside the university, whether on pub crawls or leisure activities such as hiking or cycling along the Regnitz river. Bamberg offers something for everyone!
You can find more information about university-related groups and other leisure and volunteering opportunities on the university website.
Culture ?
Bamberg is a city full of history and culture, which our students enjoy to the full. The old town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and invites you to discover it. In addition to the historical sights, the city offers a lively cultural life. Whether you are interested in theater, museums, music or literature - there is always something to experience in Bamberg. The nightlife is not neglected either: numerous bars, clubs and student parties ensure that you can switch off and have fun after a long day of studying. Events such as the “Sandkerwa” folk festival or the “Bamberg zaubert” days are just some of the highlights that take place throughout the year.
You can find out about current cultural events and parties on websites such as Feki.de or Partycipate. You can also find a good, more detailed overview of the cultural offerings on the university's website.
Travel ?
Even though Bamberg itself has a lot to offer, it's worth exploring the surrounding area. Thanks to the Studi-Ticket, you can travel around the region by bus and train at low cost. Whether you fancy a trip to Franconian Switzerland, a day out in Nuremberg or a weekend trip to Munich - public transport will get you everywhere comfortably and cheaply. The public transport network is well developed and the journeys offer you the opportunity to discover the beautiful landscape of Upper Franconia. In Bamberg itself, you can also get from A to B quickly by bike or bus.
For more information about the Studi-Ticket and public transport, take a look at the relevant university pages. You can find more tips on transportation at Feki.de.
Money ?
Studying means not only gaining new knowledge, but also learning how to manage your budget. It can be a challenge to make ends meet with the available funds, but there are many ways to support yourself financially. In addition to BAf?G and scholarships (yes, even without top grades!), you can also consider a part-time job. The university and various platforms offer a wide range of student jobs as a so-called research assistant (HiWi for short). Internships can also be a good opportunity not only to earn money, but also to gain valuable work experience.
You can find more information on possible scholarships on the University of Bamberg website and more information on BAf?G from the Studierendenwerk Würzburg.
Have a look at the WIAI job exchange or the Feki.de job exchange to find suitable offers.
Sport ?
Exercise is an important balance to studying, and in Bamberg you have numerous opportunities to stay active. The university offers a wide range of sports courses, from aerobics and basketball to Zumba - there's something for everyone. If you prefer to play in a team or want to play a particular sport intensively, you are sure to find the right offer in one of the many sports clubs in Bamberg. Whether you are just starting out or have been playing a sport for years, here you have the opportunity to work out and meet new people at the same time.
You can find the full range of sports on offer at the university here. An overview of the sports clubs in the city can be found here.
