Abstract: The current shape of digital transformations, including data-driven, algorithmic approaches and the rapid roll-out of artificial intelligence, raises a wealth of questions about ethics, responsibility and the alignment between technology and society. In this talk, I will use these developments as an entry point for an exploration of the value of focusing on questions about transparency and visibility in digital spaces. Engaging empirical and conceptual insights, I will outline a variety of avenues for research and policy-making to explore if we want to think differently about our digital future.
